
For 14 years Nad Al Sheba witnessed the world famous horses and jockeys competing there in numerous races, among them in the most famous Dubai World Cup, held at the end of
the racing season, which in Dubai lasts from November till March.
Located some 5 km from the centre of Dubai, Nad Al Sheba comprises of 2,2 km all-weather surface and 2 km turf course.
The racecourse is maintained by Dubai Racing Club, created in 1992 as a response for growing interest in horce races, started in early 80′s inspired by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The following year Nad Al Sheba hosted Dubai International Jockeys’ Challenge (DIJC) that cleared the ground to launch first Dubai World Cup in 1996.
Later the racing season has been enriched by Dubai International Racing Carnival and Winter Racing Challenge.
The beginning of 2010 brings the new Meydan Racecourse with the complex of new buildings including long Grandstand, hotels, Marina, Museum and Gallery, and the process of moving
of the Club to the new premises is in the progress. Although the official opening of Meydan is scheduled for time of Dubai World Cup ( 27 March 2010) several horse races already took place on the new course.
The huge scaled Meydan ‘horse city’ is going to include two other ventures, which were originally located near Nad Al Sheba racecourse :
Gondolphin stables and Falcon Sports centre.
