Al Ahmadiya School

In : Deira

The oldest school in Dubai, Al Ahmadiya has been established in 1912 by the rich pearl merchant Sheikh Ahmed bin Dalmouk to provide the education for the children of Dubai’s elite.
The small building at the back of the sheikh’s house has been enlarged with the extra store in 1920 and two years later sheikh Abd ar-Rahman
Ibn Hafiz introduced the Holy Quran classes, Muslim Law and teachings of Makhomet.
Before the school kids were able to learn the Quran only with individual help of religious men.
Besides the religion children studied here grammar, Arabic Calligraphy, mathematics, literature and astronomy.
Soon after introduction of English language the school rooms were not capable of providing enough space for all the learners and In 1963 has been moved to larger premises.
In 2000 after renovation the former buildings of the school and the Sheik’s house ( at present Heritage House museum ) were opened for the public hosting two museums from Heritage Sites.
